Justice Naluzze Replaces Kamya as IGG, Museveni Taps High Court Judge for Anti-Graft War
President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG), replacing Beti Kamya whose four-year term ended on Tuesday.
Confirmed by the deputy presidential press secretary, Farouk Kirunda, Justice Naluzze—formerly a High Court judge—is expected to bring a strong judicial perspective to the anti-graft body.
Her appointment comes as the Inspectorate faces the monumental task of tackling corruption, including high-level bribery.
For instance, reports indicate that job applicants in Local Governments were compelled to pay an estimated UGX. 29 Billion in bribes between 2018 and 2022 alone.
Justice Naluzze takes over from Ms. Kamya, who was credited during her tenure with efforts to strengthen the Leadership Code and launching the “Expose the Corrupt” campaign.
The two deputy IGGs, Patricia Achan Okiria and Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, will retain their positions.
